American Robin – Tug-of-War

The other day, after finishing mowing the lawn, I noticed an American Robin actively hunting where the grass had been clipped low.  It quickly scooted along only to suddenly stop, cock its head as if to eyeball something, and then swiftly lunge its beak below the turf.  What it connected with was a big, juicy earthworm and for a moment it engaged in a tug-of-war struggle with the annelid.  The Robin won.
