Comet C2020F3 Neowise – The Long-haired Greek Meets The Roman Nose

     Etymologically, the word comet comes from the Greek kometes, referring to a star with long hair … an understandable metaphor today. Those familiar with the North Idaho skyline will recognize [right of the comet in the image] one of our noteworthy landmarks, the mountain peak bearing the name Roman Nose.

The stately mount’ gazed toward the sky
The silence was a Roman’s sigh
For near Earth’s edge where light does stalk
A fiery ‘star’ spreads its locks
