Gray Wolf – The Alphas

After what seemed to be an interminably long period of time, the members of the gray wolf pack began to stir as the alphas of the group [male right, female left] got up and came to the crest of the hill.   This pair shares the duties of leadership in the Yellowstone Park group known as the Canyon wolf pack.   The exposure they provided to the camera was short-lived as the elusive creatures soon melted into the landscape and out of sight.   The image was made using a Nikon D4 camera, a Nikkor 600mm f4.0 lens, and a Nikkor TC20EIII 2X converter giving an effective focal length of 1200mm.
