Red Deer – The Victor’s Prize

The Victor’s Prize

The early morning air hovered with tenacity at -0.5ºC as the languorous light barely unfolded the faceless reality of the gelid lay of the land.  A starkness prevailed.  At the same time, two magnificent beasts magically materialized from the vapory vista, deliberately faced each other and truculently locked antlers.  Both Red Deer stags fought with a fierce firmness.  The victor’s prize lay in possession of the herd’s hinds and his opportunities to spread his genes.
