Sandhill Crane – Ancient and Surreal

Ancient and Surreal

Early evening is often a visually intoxicating time frame to experience the New Mexican landscape.  Colors, shapes, textures and sounds evolve from the ordinary to amazingly rich renditions that are hauntingly intense if not daringly dream-like.  The many moods at these moments just seem ancient and surreal, especially when the first Sandhill Crane arrives at its evening roost.  The creature’s stirring call permeates the air as powerful wings swim its stately frame through the limpid atmosphere.  If perchance the crane should “swim” close enough, its movement through space and time seems uncanny and fanciful … almost from another epoch … ancient and surreal.
