Hippopotamus – The River Horse

The River Horse

Oft it’s called the ‘river horse’...
misnomers do abound

The Hippopotamus is, of course,
sometimes in rivers found

But naming it a horse in fact
is but a fallacy

For the hippos’ genetic track
is not equine, you see

Its closest kin does seem to hail
from the briny sea

And thus it is the mighty whale
its nearest lineage be
