Brown Bear – The Bear, The Light, and The Drama

While photographing Brown Bear in Alaska, I had been watching, off and on for many days, this finger of land that jutted into the lake hoping the bear, the light, and the drama would come together at one focal point in time and space … if even for a few seconds.  On this particular morning, while heading along the trail, I looked across the water and saw a bear walking the spit.  The storm in the distance, backlit by the sun, was amazing.  I immediately recognized the opportunity for the image I’d been seeking.  As the bear reached the tip of the small peninsula, it paused.  I sought making a silhouette image that would still maintain the detail of the snow clad mountains in the background.  CLICK!  The bear, the light, and the drama came together, and the image was born!
