Peace Lily – A Gift

Peace Lily

A Gift Our Peace Lily was a gift to me from my sister and brother-in-law two-plus years ago after my double-hip replacement surgery … the latter also a gift. One of the symbolic meanings associated with the Peace Lily is for continued recovery from illness, a perfect metaphor. Our plant currently thrives under the gentle low light of a skylight in our kitchen. I chose to isolate one of the current floral blooms to demonstrate the beauty of this remarkable South American species. ~ Anecdote and Peace Lily capture, A Gift © Jerry L. Red-billed Hornbill – Tenaciously Tenderizing

Red-billed Hornbill

Tenaciously Tenderizing In Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve, this Red-billed Hornbill was fast to the task of tenaciously tenderizing its meaty meal. The locust didn’t have a prayer of a chance at escape as the hornbill tossed, thrashed and beat the hapless grasshopper senseless. ~ Anecdote and Red-billed Hornbill capture, Tenaciously Tenderizing © Jerry L. Moose – Guess Who Came To Breakfast?

Moose

Guess Who Came To Breakfast? Guess who came to breakfast yesterday morning in our backyard? This is the fifth Moose sighting on our property this winter. While it’s always a thrill to see one of these “largest of the deer” clan members, it’s also an incredible privilege to live amongst them. ~ Anecdote and Moose capture, Guess Who Came To Breakfast? © Jerry L. Leopard – On A Mission

Leopard

On A Mission Slinking steathily through the dense Mara bush, a female leopard appears to be in the act of exhibiting her finely-honed stalking skill and deadly ambush technique. But her posture was only apparent. Her kill already adorned a nearby tree limb. She was actually on a mission to locate one of her cubs, who wouldn’t stay put. ~ Anecdote and Leopard capture, On A Mission © Jerry L. Ferrara

Northern Flicker – Flick!

Northern Flicker

Flick! So, Mr. Northern Flicker [Flick!] … with several feet of snow and ice currently on the ground, there’s really no chance of you finding a favorite nosh [ants]. Thank goodness for the Suet/Peanut Fairy, a.k.a. Vicki 😀 ~ Anecdote and Northern Flicker capture, Flick! © Jerry L. Ferrara

White-tailed Deer – Blowing Raspberries

Blowing Raspberries

Blowing Raspberries There was no derision or disrespect intended by this alert White-tailed Deer doe as she was caught with her tongue ‘snaking’ out of her mouth, looking like she was blowing raspberries. The nervous posture didn’t last long, though, as she and her herd members continued their search for snow-covered apples. ~ Anecdote and White-tailed Deer capture, Blowing Raspberries © Jerry L. Common Raven – In The Sweeping Cerulean Sky

Common Raven

In The Sweeping Cerulean Sky It was an aerial free-for-all worthy of being called a dogfight as two Common Ravens cavorted in the sweeping cerulean sky. What at first appeared to be acts of aggression were merely two creatures at high-spirited play. ~ Anecdote and Common Raven capture, In The Sweeping Cerulean Sky © Jerry L. Ferrara

Red-breasted Nuthatch – Johnny One-Note

Johnny One-Note

Johnny One-Note This is a Nuthatch [sp. Red-breasted]. It was Vicki’s grandmother’s favorite bird. Nanny called it “Johnny One-Note” because of its characteristic, repeated one-note nasally call. Every time we hear the species vocalizing we are reminded of this great lady. ~ Anecdote and Red-breasted Nuthatch capture, Johnny One-Note © Jerry L. Ferrara

White-tailed Deer, Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey, Bald Eagle, American Crow, Northern Flicker, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Black-capped Chickadee, Moose, Rain Drops/Tree Branch, Scenics, Sundown, Idaho Wildlife/Nature Images – State-of-the-Art Z9

State-of-the-Art Z9 On December 24th, 2021, I was pleased to receive my copy of the much anticipated state-of-the-art Nikon Z9 mirrorless camera, the manufacturer’s newest flagship “image-making machine”. Over the days following receipt I’ve configured and worked with the instrument, often during challenging lighting and environmental conditions [temps ranging from 7º to 14º F, contrasty as well as low light levels and rain/snow storms. While I haven’t yet come close to tapping the full capacity of the camera’s features, it is proving to be an outstanding product and tool. Kudos, Nikon! ~ Anecdote and Idaho Wildlife/Nature images, State-of-the-Art Z9 © Jerry L. Ferrara
